Wonderful memories and very few worries along the way! Kevin & Sally Desouza

My husband and I traveled to Argentina in December of 2016, using PAM Travel to arrange our trip from start to finish.  We travel very frequently and I usually do all of the planning myself; however, due to the size of the country and our short timeline (2 weeks), I felt it would be best to get some expert help so we could maximize our experience.  I am glad that I made this decision!  There is no way that we could have seen and done so much, and so efficiently, without the hard work of Maria and others from PAM Travel.

We started our trip by landing in Buenos Aires on a very rainy morning. We had scheduled a four hour walking tour of BA for our first afternoon.  Our guide met at us at our hotel on time but then kindly offered to postpone our walk until the next day, due to the weather conditions. He genuinely did not want us to catch a cold!  The guide left us with great suggestions of where to go for dinner that evening. We enjoyed our tour of the city much better the next day, without ponchos. In the evening, we had a late dinner while we watched a tango show, which is a must-do cultural experience.

From BA, we took a flight to Ushuaia where we spent the next few days exploring the natural beauty of the “End of the World.”  Day one, we took a short helicopter ride over the Laguna Esmeralda, the coastline, and city.  Day two, we took a bumpy but thrilling off road tour through the Southern Andes, stopping for lunch (and wine) at a rustic cabin beside a lake. Day three, we visited Penguin Island and Estancia Harberton.  I particularly enjoyed this excursion, which included an invigorating hour plus of paddling in a river raft, followed by a hilly hike. Unfortunately, the level of activity was too much for one of the members of our group, making it necessary to change our hiking route to get her medical care. The guides did a wonderful job of keeping calm and maintaining everyone’s safety. On our final day in Ushuaia, we took another boat ride, this time on the Beagle Channel.  We were delighted by the wildlife, and the entertaining history of the area, as told by our guides.

Our next few days were spent in El Calafate.  On Christmas day, we took a full day tour of the Perito Moreno Glacier. We viewed the glacier from a distance (a short hike with great places for photos), then by boat, and finally up close and personal, actually trekking on the glacier itself!  This was my first experience visiting a glacier and was a highlight of our entire trip. We also took a day trip into Chile to see the Torres del Paine range.  The crystal blue color of the lakes beside the mountains was stunning,

From here, we traveled by plane to the Lake District of El Bariloche.  We chose to hire a car for the three days that we were in this region, which allowed us to explore at a leisurely pace.  Driving was straightforward and the roads were well maintained.  We found a few short hikes to entertain us during the day, along with enjoying the pool at our hotel.  In the evenings, there were plenty of choices of restaurants.

All in all, our trip to Argentina left us with wonderful memories and very few worries along the way. We were always greeted by professional drivers in airports, our transfers were on time, and our tours left nothing out. Maria thoughtfully sent us many extras to enhance our trip—such as suggestions for driving routes and restaurants.  She also introduced us to mate, a strong tea of Argentina, which is a must-try for all visitors.  (I brought a few large packets home with me). Whatever your interests, I am certain that PAM Travel can design a trip that meets your needs!
